How To Motivate Yourself To Clean
Motivating yourself to clean can be tricky, especially if you aren’t feeling your best. It can be difficult to take the first step and tackle the mess. But, we have come up with the best ways to help you feel more motivated and achieve some great cleaning successes around the home. These are the best cleaning tips – for when you don’t feel like cleaning.
Small and steady
It can be daunting if the task you have is too big. Realistically, nothing bad will happen if you take each day slowly and start your clean gradually. We suggest splitting the task into mini tasks that only take 20 minutes’ maximum. This way you aren’t committing to a long period that feels dragged out and strenuous. You could always start with simply wiping over the worktops, and then taking a break to do something more enjoyable or relaxing.
Manage your motivation
Motivation varies day to day depending on our mood. We all have those days where we feel super pumped to accomplish things and make progress, but we also have days where doing anything seems a bit too difficult. This means you should manage your motivation. You can do this by doing things on motivated days that make it easier for you on days where you don’t feel as keen. This is as simple as buying cleaning products on motivated days and leaving them somewhere accessible. This takes an additional step off your plate when you don’t feel as cleaning ready.
Set an alarm
The best way to motivate yourself is to feel like you have accomplished something and enjoy that feeling. We suggest setting a timer at anywhere from 5-10 minutes. Clean for the allotted time and then see how you feel. If you feel accomplished then you will carry on, if you still don’t feel great, then at least you have completed something!
Team up
Doing something you don’t feel like doing, is always worse doing it alone. It’s much easier when you have a motivator behind you to keep your spirits up. Team up with a friend or family member who enjoys cleaning and has a great attitude! This will give you the encouragement to get your clean on!
Reward yourself
No, this doesn’t just work on kids! Set yourself a goal, this could be cleaning the whole bathroom or tidying the living room. Once you have completed this goal, you can reward yourself with something you enjoy such as a nail appointment, or a takeaway. This means that you will push through the less pleasant task to feel the reward of something that makes you happy.

I find doing a tadaa list works best for me, I write down each accomplishment no matter how small and look back at the end of the day to see what I have done, so much better than a to do list, as I feel the pressure too much, then feel worse when I don’t finish it.. ggive it a go!
