How To FAKE a Clean Home! - Cleaning Tips

We have all had that dreaded call where we are told an unexpected guest will be arriving in our home. We then look around and realise our home is NOT guest ready! But, there is no need to panic, as we have the answer. Here at SPh2ONGE we are all about cleaning, but sometimes it’s ok to cut some corners and fake a clean home! This way your home can appear clean and tidy while the guests are over, then you can crack out the cleaning at a better time once they have gone! These are some of our favourite NOT cleaning tips (we never thought we would be saying that)!

Fill the air

The best way to make your house feel clean, is to make it smell clean! There is nothing nicer than walking into a home that smells of a homely scent. Whether you choose lavender, citrus, or floral, there is a scent to suit every home (and home owner!). There are many ways that you can fill your home with a clean scent, here are some of our favourites –

  • Light a scented candle
  • Re-vive your reed diffuser but turning the reeds
  • Plug-in air fresheners
  • Spray Air fresheners
  • Wax Melts
  • Potpourri
  • Essential oil diffuser

Bathroom re-vamp!

Do not get any cleaning supplies out of your cupboard! This is a job for disinfectant wipes as they are quick, easy, and clean! We would always opt for eco-friendly wipes that bio-degrade, but your favourite household wipes will work just as good. No one wants bathroom embarrassment when guests come to stay. Simply take your wipes and go over all surfaces. Use one wipe for countertops, one for the sink and shower/bath, and one for the toilet seat. If you have a few minutes to spare, run a wipe over the floor to catch any dirt of hair. This way your bathroom is guest ready!

Hide the dirty plates

We are all guilty of leaving dishes in the sink to wash later. But, when guests are coming we don’t have time to clean and put away every dish. We don’t condone this behaviour often, but on this occasion, we won’t tell anyone if you hide the dishes! A great idea is to stack the plates inside the dishwasher, and then take them out once the guests have left to be cleaned. This is a bit of a cheat trick, and you might feel like a child just hiding mess, but what your guests don’t know won’t hurt them!

These tips should have your home looking more presentable ready for company. But, don’t worry, your home is supposed to look lived in! Take pride in a home that is comfortable for your home family and don’t stress about other people seeing your mess and clutter!

Do you have some ideas to fake a tidy home (even if it is just for a few hours)? We love to read your tips so leave them in the comments below!
